Lana Condor has seen her star rise since appearing as Jubilee in 2016’s X-MEN: APOCALYPSE with hit roles in Netflix’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (which is getting a sequel) and SyFy’s comic book adaption Deadly Class series. Speaking with Collider, she confirmed that she won’t appear in this year’s DARK PHOENIX “’cause I was doing To All the Boys.”
Scheduling conflicts aside, it seems if 20th Century Fox wanted her to return as Jubilee, they could’ve picked up her contractual option to return. Alas, with a story like Dark Phoenix it’s possible writer and director decided to focus on a smaller group of X-Men, especially since Jubilee wasn’t seen alongside her fellow mutants at the end of Apocalypse.
“It’s funny because I, of course, love X-Men forever,” she said. “X-Men was such an incredible experience because I had never worked before, I was so excited to be there. I love Jubilee and I hope that in the future she’ll get her due…”
Condor said she hopes to see more Jubilee in the future, although her involvement will depend if X-Men is rebooted after Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox this year.
“I hope X-Men lives on so hopefully in the future I’ll be able to go back to that family because it’s where I feel very indebted and loyal to.”
