During an appearance at Manchester’s For the Love of Sci-Fi independent fan convention, THE NEW MUTANTS actor Charlie Heaton (Sam Guthrie, Cannonball) briefly addressed 20th Century Fox’s long-delayed film. Laughing, Heaton replied: “I don’t know! No, it’s coming out next year, but we filmed it almost two years ago. It’s the release [date] that’s been moved quite a while.”
“If you don’t know, The New Mutants is like an X-Men spin-off,” he explained during the pane. “It was a comic book; Bill Sienkiewicz did it and it was an X-Men comic. It’s basically like a separate bunch of mutants. We shot this [film] a while back and its been pushed because Fox has now merged with Disney.”
Josh Boone’s film, described as Nightmare on Elm Street meets X-Men, is currently dated for April 3, 2020, though there’s yet to be a peep of any confirmation from the studio’s social media account or the official website, which lists “Coming Soon to Theaters.”
Fan are anxiously awaiting for any word on the film’s next trailer. A release with or before Fox’s thriller/horror Underwater on January 11 is the best guess. If not, then expect the date to have been pushed back further.
