Concept artist Phil Boutte shared artworks he created for director Simon Kinberg’s DARK PHOENIX during the film’s pre-production process. It appears at one point Kinberg planned to follow the Marvel comic books and include the Hellfire Club as antagonists in Jean Grey’s much beloved story.
Featured in the post (use the arrow buttons to browse) are the return of January Jones’ Emma Frost, along with new characters Harry Leland, Shinobi Shaw, Freidich Von Roehm, the Red Lotus Gang and even the Von Strucker twins (something fans of Fox’s The Gifted will appreciate).
“A while back, I had the pleasure of working with the ever gracious Costume Designer Daniel Orlandi on X-Men: Dark Phoenix,” writes Boutte . “We had a great time but were saddened that these designs ended up on the chopping block. Here is a post of what could have been. Now that Marvel owns the property, I wonder if we will see some version of them in the future?”
In related content, Boutte also shared some awesome t-shirt designs featuring mutant heroes Nightcrawler and Mystique.
“”We find that our heroes are now popular and celebrated,” says Boutte. “They have fans! So, Orlandi had me do these quick designs to put on t-shirts for the fans to show their enthusiasm. These were fun and such a nice break from the day to day concept work.”
Dark Phoenix is now available on Digital HD, Blu-ray and DVD.
