THE NEW MUTANTS director Josh Boone told Screen Rant during 2017 set visits that his horror thriller X-Men spin-off is “f*cked up* and questions if the film will “make people cry.”
Speaking on 20th Century Fox (now Studios) greenlighting the film, Boone said “It’s funny man, they’re so emboldened by DEADPOOL and LOGAN and that they really let us – I can’t believe they’re letting us make this movie. If they knew all the stuff in this, I’m still like ‘Do they know how f*cked up this movie is?”
Sounds pretty wild, especially since Boone previously said that they always planned and shot the film as PG-13 horror.
He then went on to explain the emotional aspects of the film, saying a few scenes he showed to people during production had actually made them cry, which made him question himself if he was “going to make people cry,” while watching it.
We won’t have much longer to find out, as The New Mutants arrives in theaters on April 3, 2020.
