Alexandra Shipp thinks it’d be really great to see a Storm of darker complexion.

Actress Alexandra Shipp recently opened up about her thoughts on Marvel Studios potentially casting a darker-skinned actress for the role of Storm in Marvel Studios’ next iteration of the character. The topic is part of a debate from those who feel the character hasn’t been represented correctly compared to her comic book counterpart, and that colorism in Hollywood is an issue.

“In future, I think I’d like to see a woman of darker complexion play Storm,” she said during an interview with ComicBookMovie. “I think it’s about time that we see that representation, and I’m more than happy to see that. I think it would be really great. The little girl in me would really like to see that.”

Reflecting on her brief, but memorable, time in the role across two films, X-MEN: APOCALYPSE (2016) and DARK PHOENIX (2019), Shipp said “I loved the experience. I think it was so definitive of my 20s to be part of that. I’d never worked on anything so big and to also be able to play not only one of my favorite superheroes growing up, but also reprising a role Halle Berry played was a huge honor.”
