The question on everyone’s minds is which actor will play Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hugh Jackman portrayed the iconic character over 17 years onscreen, hanging up with claws with LOGAN in 2017.
Taron Egerton (Kingsman, Rocketman) has appeared on many fan castings as a suitable successor to Jackman, which is no surprise, as the two actors are friends and have worked together.
Speaking to The New York Times, Egerton confirms he met with Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige to talk about about his potential future with the world of Marvel. While not giving any specifics, he clearly let it be known that he’s interested in the role.
“I don’t think it would be wrong to say that,” he said, laughing, when asked if they discussed Wolverine. “I’d be excited but I’d be apprehensive as well, because Hugh is so associated with the role that I’d wonder if it’d be very difficult for someone else to do it.”
He paused, then flashed a grin. “But hopefully if it does come around, they’ll give me a shot.”
Fans are split on how they want the next Wolverine to appear. Jackman brought charm and ferocity to the role, but also a height at 6’3″. In the comics, Logan is known for being on the shorter side around 5’3″ and bulky. Egerton is 5’9″, which is not a deal-breaker for most. One name continuously popping up in fan discussions is Daniel Radcliffe, who’s 5’5″.
It’s unclear when the character will make his MCU debut, but with Professor X being seen in the multiverse, it’s just a matter of time when mutants will fully let themselves be known to the world.
