Post contains spoilers for Marvel Studios’ Ms. Marvel
MCU fans were shocked when the MS. MARVEL season finale ended on a reveal about their being a “mutation” in Kamala’s genes. Too make things even more clear, a few notes from the X-MEN ’97 theme played – similar to Professor X’s introduction in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
In the comics, Kamala is an Inhuman, making this, along with her power-set, another massive diversion from her original interpretation. Assuming this mutant discovery isn’t a misdirect (which is still a possibility), it would make her the first mutant onscreen in universe prime.
Speaking with fans during a Reddit AMA, actor Iman Vellani responded to reactions from the season finale: “Don’t get me wrong, I love the Inhumans, Black Bolt is my father. But I do think the MCU is in a very different place than the comics were and so we were actually able to go this way with Kamala.”
Vellani also revealed a neat tid-bit related to which mutant inspired the visual display of her powers. “We definitely took from Armor from the X-Men, but I like to think of it as a surge of energy which surrounds her as a layer of protection, I don’t think she actually feels it like glass.”
Ms. Marvel is now streaming in entirety on Disney+
