20th Century Fox’s legendary X-MEN released in theaters today, 22 years ago, on July 14, 2000. Directed by Bryan Singer and written by David Hayter based off a story by Singer and Tom DeSanto, the iconic film influenced a new generation of comic book films and fans.

With a budget of just $75 million, including a hectic production schedule, the film received positive praise from audiences and critics alike. Domestically, it grossed $157 million, with a $139 million haul overseas, bringing it’s worldwide box office total to $296 million.

The film featured a mix of well-known and up-and-coming actors: Patrick Stewart as Professor Xavier, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Halle Berry as Storm, Famke Janssen as Jean Grey, James Marsden as Cyclops, Anna Paquin as Rogue, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, Tyler Mane as Sabretooth, Ray Park as Toad, and Bruce Davidson as Senator Kelly.
