Tenoch Huerta recently confirmed to Empire Magazine that his character Namor will indeed be a mutant in Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Eagle-eyed fans noticed one of his specific mutant traits in the film’s trailer, with a brief look at his winged feet. The magazine revealed a striking new look at his character.
In the comics, Namor is ruler of Atlantis, but filmmakers decided to root this film version in the riches of Aztec culture with the underwater City of Talocan. This sequel deals with the aftermath of Black Panther when T’Challa decides to reveal Wakanda to the world. “That decision puts Talocan in jeopardy,” said Huerta on his role as antagonist, “and Talocan has to take action to protect themselves.”
Namor will be an important figure moving forward, hopefully with his own projects, and interactions with the X-Men, Avengers and Fantastic Four; particularly his relationship with Sue Storm, the Invisible Woman. There’s so much to explore!
With mutants slowly appearing across the MCU, X-Men fans wonder if a Storm tease is on the horizon. The rumor mill has been quiet on that front, and it might be a while longer before we meet the weather goddess. While (in the comics) she has ties to Wakanda later in life with T’Challa as Queen, her origins are with her mother’s tribe, the death of her parents, and surviving the streets of Cairo as a child thief. Of course, Marvel could opt to streamline her story to mix with existing MCU elements.
Wakanda Forever arrives in theaters on November 11, 2022.
