Featured Mutant: Scott Summers aka Cyclops

James Marsden’s Cyclops is our new featured mutant!

Portrayed by actor James Marsden in X-MEN (2000), X2 (2003), THE LAST STAND (2006), and DAYS OF FUTURE PAST (2014), Cyclops is an early student of Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), and teaches at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. As leader of the X-Men, Scott Summers is stoic, strong-willed, and fiercely loyal.

Scott Summers emits powerful beams of energy from his eyes. This concussive force is so powerful, it’s enough to punch a hole through a mountain, producing more power than a nuclear bomb! Scott is unable to control this energy, and requires eyewear made with ruby quartz lenses to keep his powers at bay.

We first meet Cyclops as he joins Storm (Halle Berry) to save Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and Rogue (Anna Paquin) from the villainous Sabretooth (Tyler Man). He faces tragedy after witnessing his fiance Jean Grey (Famke Janssen) sacrifice herself to save save the team from a tsunami at Alkali Lake. When she is reborn, he greets her with a loving kiss, albeit briefly, as he’s ripped molecule by molecule by the Dark Phoenix. After Wolverine and Kitty Pryde (Elliot Page) change the events of 1973, a new timeline is created where Cyclops and Jean are alive and well…for a while, at least.

Marsden’s Cyclops is an adaption of the popular Marvel Comics character created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, making his first appearance in The X-Men #1 (1963).
