the SUPER🦸 — GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 is now playing in theaters! Director James Gunn’s final cosmic piece for Marvel Studios (he’s now over DC Studios with Peter Safran) did relatively well on Rotten Tomatoes with (as of this posting) a fresh 80% from critics, and a healthier 96% from audience members. We’ll see how the numbers level out after opening weekend for a more accurate overall reaction.

According to Variety, the film is estimated to bring close to $120 million at the domestic box office – although inside tracking reports it could be lower.. This means the mega-success that is The Super Mario Bros Movie will be dethroned from the number one spot. These numbers are good, but not great. The first Guardians, an unknown property at the time, opened with $96 million, and the sequel racked in $146 million.

So what’s the plot? Via Marvel — Our beloved band of misfits are looking a bit different these days. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.

Marketing for this film has been heavy on giving Rocket Racoon (Bradley Cooper) the spot light, and fans should expect to delve into the character’s past, learning how he (and some of his friends) came to be.

The film stars Chris Pratt as Starlord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket Racoon, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, Chukwudi Iwuji as The High Evolutionary, Will Poulter as Adam Warlock, Maria Bakalova as the voice of Cosmo, Sylvester Stallone as Stakar, and Elizabeth Debicki as Ayesha.
