With the conclusion of the WGA strike, writers Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells are officially able to make any necessary changes to the DEADPOOL 3 screenplay! I hear the script is very solid, but star Ryan Reynolds in particular likes to ad-lib and update the jokes, and third acts are always known for getting reworked.
Production can’t continue normally as the SAG-AFTRA strike is still ongoing (negotiations resume Monday), and actors like Reynolds, Hugh Jackman and a host of others can’t film their scenes until an agreement is made between the union and Hollywood execs.
Director Shawn Levy previously said they “…were halfway through filming” at Pinewood Studios in England before shutting down to strike. It’s unknown if everything’s ready to go at a whim once the actors strike is over, or if it’ll take some time to get back on track. Surely work like that is being done now to ensure a smooth ride back into filming.
Do you think Deadpool 3 will make its scheduled May 4, 2024 release date? Even before the strikes, that date seemed a bit rushed for post-production and VFX. But Levy has made a point to say he’s giving preference to real locations over an abundant use of green screens; maybe the film won’t require as many VFX shots compared to the typical Marvel Studios fare?
