the SUPER🦸 — AQUMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM arrives in theaters next week on December 22, and with that comes the promo push for Jason Mamoa’s last swim as the King of Atlantis. At least, that’s what a new spot alludes to with “Witness Aquaman’s last stand.”
Two new behind the scene featurettes go behind the scenes of director James Wan‘s sequel to the $1 Billion-grossing juggernaut. Joining Mamoa are stars Patrick Wilson as Orm, Amber Heard as Mera, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, and Nicole Kidman as Atlannam with Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus and Randall Park as Dr. Stephen Shin.
In the sequel, having failed to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta, still driven by the need to avenge his father’s death, will stop at nothing to take Aquaman down once and for all. This time Black Manta is more formidable than ever before, wielding the power of the mythic Black Trident, which unleashes an ancient and malevolent force. To defeat him, Aquaman will turn to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former King of Atlantis, to forge an unlikely alliance. Together, they must set aside their differences in order to protect their kingdom and save Aquaman’s family, and the world, from irreversible destruction.
A final international trailer has been released, which you can watch below. It gives us more of the story and epic action, with new and familiar scenes.
Mamoa promoted the film on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, revealing he wrote a 50-page treatment for the final DCU picture. He’s received “story by” credit, along with Wan, David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and Thomas Pa’a Sibbett. The screenplay itself was written by Johnson-McGoldrick.
