Warner Bros is returning to the world of The Matrix, this time with a new creator at helm. The studio announced Wednesday that Drew Goddard (The Martian, World War Z) will write and direct a new entry, with Lana Wachowski serving as executive producer.
This will mark the first time the Wachowski sisters are not deeply involved in bringing the legendary franchise to the big screen. They have previously expressed disinterest in continuing the film franchise, with Lana (begrudgingly) making a fourth entry that was met with mixed reviews.
With The Matrix being a strong IP with massive potential for expansion, it’s no surprise WB decided to continue the universe one way or another.
No word yet if Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will reprise their roles as Neo and Trinity, respectively.
