Deadpool & Wolverine was a juggernaut at the box office on opening weekend, bringing in an estimated $211 million domestic for a number 1 debut. That eXceeded industry eXpectations by more than 35%!
Internationally, the Marvel Studios film amassed more than $233.1 million, giving it about $441.1 million worldwide.
“This is kind of hard to process,” wrote star Ryan Reynolds on an IG story. “But thank you to everyone who went to see the film this weekend… wow.”
This is the biggest R-rated opening of all time, topping the first Deadpool (2016) which had $133.7 million.
It’s the biggest opening ever for any Reynolds, Hugh Jackman or Shawn Levy project. It’s also the largest July opening of all time, including the largest of 2024 so far.
The movie resonated with audiences, paying tribute to an era of comic book filmmaking pre-MCU. This isn’t just Deadpool saying ‘Oh, Hello’ to the MCU,” wrote Reynolds in a post. “It’s Deadpool – and Hugh, Shawn and me – saying farewell to a place and an era that literally made us. We are forever grateful to the fun, weird, uneven and risky world of 20th Century Fox. It was our origin story and we wouldn’t trade it for anything. And thank you to Kevin Feige and Disney for allowing us to share it.”
