Deadpool & Wolverine was a fun time at the movies, but a number of fans wanted to know why the core X-Men team were M.I.A (once again, after Logan) while Wolverine gets the MCU treatment. Sure, the plot dictated the reasoning, but was there ever a chance of Storm, Cyclops, Jean Grey and Rogue showing up Turns out, they weren’t asked – at least Halle Berry wasn’t.
“No,” Berry said, when asked by ComicBook if she was approached for the film. “[Ryan Reynolds’ wife] Blake [Lively] asked me one time, I ran into her at a Marc Jacobs fashion show, and she said, ‘Would you ever be in my husband’s movie as Storm?’ I said, ‘Yeah, if he asked me,’ but he never asked me.”
Director Shawn Levy previously said that characters like Professor X and the X-Men were never considered to appear in the film. Whether that was due to the production budget or the story they wanted to tell is anyone’s guess.
It could also be that Marvel Studios wants to save them for the conclusion of The Multiverse Saga with Avengers: Doomsday and (more importantly) Avengers: Secret Wars.
We’ll have to wait and see if the OG X-Men get another moment on the big screen, or if it’s full steam ahead on the rebooted team.
