Speaking with Variety on their Award Circuit Podcast, actor Ryan Reynolds shared that while rumors of him and Hugh Jackman reuniting from Deadpool & Wolverine to host the Academy Awards sounds fun, his headspace is currently focused on another project. “It would be a dream to do it one day,” he said. “But I’m writing a movie for myself, Hugh [Jackman] and Shawn [Levy] to do that is not Marvel. That’s it.”
Speaking of Marvel, Reynolds said he doesn’t know Deadpool’s next steps in the MCU just yet, particularly when it comes to upcoming juggernauts Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. “I’m not even being cagey,” he said, laughing. “We’ll see what happens there.”
Reflecting on why the audiences connected with director Shawn Levy’s R-rated Summer blockbuster, Reynolds thinks “people are looking for reasons to come together in smart and fun and unexpected ways.” While “it feels great” seeing how the film performed with $1.33 billion at the box office, he admits “I don’t think you have a normal functioning nervous system if you can actually process that in any real way.”
Deadpool & Wolverine is now available on Digital HD, 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD.
