Appearing on Jenna & Friends, Nightcrawler actor Alan Cumming revealed that he will indeed be wearing makeup as the teleporting mutant for Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday. With cameras set to roll on Sunday, Cumming confirmed that he already completed makeup tests during pre-production and that they are able to get the process done in under 90 minutes, compared to the nearly 4 hours it took while filming X2: X-Men United (2003). Instead of creating Kurt Wagner’s facial scars by hand, they are now 3D printed.
Cumming joins a list of returning X-Men actors in Marvel’s upcoming juggernaut of a film, led by Robert Downey Jr. as the villainous Doctor Doom. They include Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden and Kelsey Grammer, along with Channing Tatum, who may or may not be portraying Gambit again.
Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters on May 1, 2026.
