Comic-Con International returns to San Diego next week with one of its most anticipated events for film and TV music lovers, the 11th Annual Musical Anatomy of a Superhero panel. Taking place on Thursday, July 24 at 10AM at the Indigo Ballroom in Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel, this fan-favorite event dives into the sonic storytelling behind today’s biggest superhero and genre-based productions, offering an exclusive peek into the minds of the composers who give our favorite heroes their musical voice.
This year’s panel boasts an exciting lineup of celebrated composers shaping the soundscapes of upcoming and current blockbuster projects:
- Simon Franglen (Avatar: Fire & Ash)
- Mick Giacchino (The Penguin)
- Brandon Roberts (Andor)
- Alex Seaver (Arcane)
- Ian Chang (Thunderbolts)
The panel will be guided by Michael Giacchino (The Fantastic Four: First Steps), who steps in as special guest moderator. Giacchino’s own impressive resume includes iconic scores for The Incredibles, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange, and more, making him the perfect host to explore how music powers the heartbeat of hero-driven storytelling.
In superhero and genre films, music does more than just fill space, it becomes a character in its own right. A great score can amplify every moment. This panel pulls back the curtain on the creative process, revealing how composers work closely with directors, producers, and teams to craft the emotional architecture of a scene or even an entire universe.
Attendees can expect never-before-heard music from Avatar: Fire & Ash and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, among other films, including exclusive clips from upcoming projects, and behind-the-scenes info straight from the composers shaping the next era of superhero cinema and television.
The event is produced by Costa Communications, and sponsored by ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, and the Society of Composers & Lyricists (SCL).
