Superman (2025) writer & director James Gunn has revealed that a follow-up titled DC Studios’ Man of Tomorrow will be with us on July 9, 2027.
Gunn has previously said that his next film wouldn’t be a direct sequel to Superman, so what exactly is this? Along with the announcement came new artwork drawn by DC Comics’ Jim Lee. Stars David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult followed up with similar artwork ms from Jorge Jiménez and Mitch Gerads, respectively. It depicts Superman with Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor in his exo suit. The two appear to be working alongside each other, even friendly, with the exception of one drawing where they’re fighting.
Might this next chapter in the Superman saga be a team-up movie or, more interestingly, take place from the perspective of Luthor? If Gunn isn’t calling this a sequel, there must be a clear reason for it. It will be interesting to see what the story will be.
Like Superman, Gunn is writing & directing this as well. No word (yet) on who else will star, although Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl) and Aaron Pierre (DCU’s John Stewart – Green Lantern) shared the news on their socials.
