X-Men Films And Superhero Entertainment News — Trailers, Industry Coverage, Reviews, Original Comics: SUPER (2025-), Mutant Fandom And More

In a recent interview with Kristian Harloff (via Comic Book), X-Men star Famke Janssen opened up about her career path and clarified that she will not be returning for Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday. The actress, who famously portrayed Jean Grey (and her darker alter ego, the Phoenix) across multiple X-Men films, made it clear that her focus has shifted toward projects where she has more creative input and control.

When asked if she had been approached about reprising her role for Avengers: Doomsday, Janssen admitted that she hadn’t, and that even if she had, she wasn’t interested in returning under the current circumstances.

“I would not be asked back on Doomsday, or somewhere else, with that type of input. That’s not what they want from me,” Janssen said.

Janssen is currently an executive producer on the upcoming Netflix series Amsterdam Empire, a project that gives her a seat at the table when it comes to creative decision-making. For her, that level of involvement has become a priority.

“It’s hard for me now to just look back and worry, or think about a part where I get a few lines,” she explained. “It just doesn’t seem that interesting to me. I’m in a different place, and I’ve earned my way into this moment, and I’m running with it, because this is 80 films under my belt, and I’ve paid my dues.”

Despite this, Janssen didn’t completely rule out participating in big ensemble films in the future. According to the site, Janssen admitted that she isn’t opposed to doing something like Avengers: Doomsday, where she would be part of a fun ensemble.

Famke Janssen’s comments reflect a career evolution that many veteran actors experience, where they take more control behind the scenes. While fans may be disappointed that her version of Jean Grey seemingly won’t return for Avengers: Doomsday, her remarks show that she’s embracing a new chapter in her creative journey.

Still, with Avengers: Doomsday rumored to feature multiversal appearances from past X-Men actors, it’s hard not to imagine how Janssen’s Jean Grey could’ve fit into the larger Marvel tapestry. But for now, it seems the Phoenix has moved on.
