Sir Ian McKellen briefly talked about his return as Magneto in Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday while appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The actor once again revealed a potential spoiler about what the Master of Magnetism does in the film. That said, McKellen doesn’t think he’s spoiling anything.
The video starts at the 7:30 mark…
“I don’t think I’m spoiling anything by saying that Magneto destroys New Jersey. I’m sorry about that, New Jersey, my fault. So, I’m standing up pretending to do that, and that wind is blowing in my hair, and I’m putting on a fierce look, and I’m trying to be magnetic, and that director on the loudspeaker says, ‘Ian, look more furious.’ He then said, ‘Shout something.’ I said, ‘What do I shout?’ He said, ‘Shout the worst thing you could possibly think of.’ I said, ‘Mar-a-Lago!'”
McKellen will return with the original X-Men trilogy cast, which includes Sir Patrick Stewart, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, Alan Cumming, and Kelsey Grammer (along with Deadpool & Wolverine star Channing Tatum as Gambit) in Avengers: Doomsday. The highly-anticipated film arrives in theaters on December 18, 2026.
