As the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to evolve, speculation surrounds the X-Men reboot after Avengers: Secret Wars. One familiar face has made it clear she’s ready to return. Lana Condor, who first portrayed Jubilee in X-Men: Apocalypse, recently shared her wishes with Parade about stepping back into the role, if given the opportunity.
Before gaining widespread recognition through Netflix’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, Condor made her film debut as the fan-favorite mutant Jubilee. While the character has since appeared in animation, most recently in X-Men ’97, voiced by Holly Chou, she hasn’t returned to live-action since 2016.
Marvel Studios has laid the groundwork for multiverse storytelling, particularly with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, which expands the possibilities for characters from alternate timelines and realities to re-enter the fold. Combined with ongoing rumors of a post-Secret Wars reset for the MCU, the door may be wide open for actors like Condor to reprise her role in a new context.
“I have been on this crusade to try and have them bring me back since truly the moment X-Men: Apocalypse first came out,” Condor said.
Reflecting on her early days in the industry, she also spoke candidly about how meaningful the role was to her at the time:
“There was so much of Jubilee because she was my first character ever, ever, ever, and I was such a baby…I didn’t know. I thought you had to pay for crafting. I had never stepped foot on set. So, I didn’t know that world, and I was just so happy to be there. Honestly, any screen time that I got, I was like, ‘I can’t believe this is happening.’”
Even now, Condor sees untapped potential in Jubilee’s story, especially when drawing from the rich history of the comics:
“There was so much that I wanted to do with Jubilee, and there’s so many—based off of the comics—just so many places to go with her, so hopefully. That would be amazing. I would love that,” Condor said.
Condor’s continued passion for the character adds to the growing conversation around who might return in the MCU before mutants are rebooted. Just throwing this out there: Condor would look great standing beside the OG cast!when mutants finally take center stage again
