The fight for Earthrealm is far from over. Mortal Kombat II is set to deliver an even more intense and unapologetically violent continuation of the hit video game adaptation, bringing back fan-favorite warriors while introducing one of the franchise’s most iconic figures.
This time around, the stakes are higher than ever. Earthrealm’s champions are forced into a relentless, no-rules showdown against the looming threat of Shao Kahn, whose tyrannical ambition could spell the end of everything they are fighting to protect. The battlefield expands, the danger escalates, and survival is anything but guaranteed.
A major highlight of the sequel is the arrival of Johnny Cage, played by Karl Urban. His inclusion adds a fresh dynamic to the roster, joining returning and new fighters portrayed by Adeline Rudolph, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Tati Gabrielle, Lewis Tan, and Damon Herriman. The ensemble also features Chin Han, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han, and Hiroyuki Sanada returning as Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion.

Behind the camera, Simon McQuoid returns to direct, following his work on the 2021 reboot. The screenplay comes from Jeremy Slater, drawing from the legendary game series created by Ed Boon and John Tobias. The production team includes Todd Garner, E. Bennett Walsh, James Wan, Toby Emmerich, and McQuoid himself, with executive producers Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Slater, Boon, and Lawrence Kasanoff helping guide the project.
The creative team also features cinematography by Stephen F. Windon, production design from Yohei Taneda, editing by Stuart Levy, and costume design by Cappi Ireland. Casting is handled by Rich Delia, with a score composed by Benjamin Wallfisch.
Mortal Kombat II is scheduled to hit theaters on May 8, with international releases beginning May 6.
