Sony has officially released the first teaser trailer for Resident Evil, offering a chilling look at what’s being described as “a new era of evil.” The preview is reinvention of the iconic franchise, with the teaser emphasizing a relentless sense of dread and survival. With the film shot for IMAX, the scale and intensity should offer a cinematic experience built for the big screen when it arrives in theaters on September 18, 2026.

From the mind of visionary filmmaker Zach Cregger, best known for Barbarian and Weapons, this new take on Resident Evil shifts into an all-new story that leans heavily into the canon chaos from a different perspective. The film follows Bryan, played by Austin Abrams, a medical courier whose routine job spirals into a nightmare. Over the course of one horrifying night, Bryan is thrust into a race for survival as everything around him collapses into terror and disorder.

Produced by Columbia Pictures and Constantin Film in association with TriStar Pictures, the film brings together a strong creative team. Zach Cregger directs and co-writes the screenplay alongside Shay Hatten. The producing team includes Robert Kulzer, Zach Cregger, Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, Carter Swan, and Asad Qizilbash, with executive producers Oliver Berben, Victor Hadida, Richard Wright, and Robert Bernacci helping bring the project to life.

The cast features Austin Abrams in the lead role, alongside Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Paul Walter Hauser.
