Marvel Studios is preparing to usher the X-Men into a new era, and all eyes are on D23 as the studio unveiled major casting details for its highly anticipated reboot. Directed by Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*), the upcoming film will introduce a new generation of mutants to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Anticipation surrounding the project reached a fever pitch ahead of the Disney Entertainment Showcase, with casting rumors spreading across social media. Reports had indicated that Marvel could use the D23 stage to officially announce several members of the film’s cast, and they did just that!
Joining the cast are Christopher Abbott (Wolf Man) as Professor X, Adam Driver (Megalopolis) as Nathaniel Milbury aka Mister Sinister, Samara Weaving (Ready or Not 2: Here I Come)as Emma Frost, Sadie Sink (Spider-Man: Brand New Day) as Jean Grey, Kit Connor (Heartstopper Forever) as Cyclops, Maya Boyd (& Juliet) as Storm, and Inde Navarrette (Obsession) as Rogue.
The screenplay is being developed by Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo, with Schreier having previously discussed his desire to bring something fresh to the long-running X-Men mythology while drawing inspiration from the classic comics.
Marvel Studios also officially unveiled the film’s symbol/logo during the presentation. Alongside the logo, the studio has announced an official release of May 5, 2028, giving audiences a firm date to look forward to as the X-Men prepare to become a major part of the MCU’s next chapter.
The new movie represents a major turning point for Marvel Studios. While mutants have existed elsewhere in the Marvel cinematic landscape, Schreier’s film will give the studio an opportunity to establish its own definitive version of the X-Men within the MCU. The project will follow Avengers: Secret Wars and help launch a new era.
