The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced that 15 films, including X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, have been selected for consideration for Achievement in Visual Effects for the 84th Academy Awards!
Next month members of the Academy’s Visual Effects Branch Executive Committee, who selected the 15 films, will narrow the list to 10. All members of the Visual Effects Branch will be invited to view 10-minute excerpts from each of the 10 shortlisted films on Thursday, January 19. Following the screenings, the members will vote to nominate five films for final Oscar consideration.
Other films up for potential noms include “Captain America: The First Avenger,” “Cowboys & Aliens,” “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2,” “Hugo,” “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,” “Pirates of the Caribeen: On Stranger Tides,” “Real Steel,” “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,” “Sucker Punch,” “Super 8,” “Thor,” “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” and “The Tree of Life.”

Captain America and Thor? You must be kidding me… those two had the poorest CGI since the Mummy 3! Especially CA was horrible and looked like a PS2 game from time to time.
I guess it will be TRANSFORMERS in the end. ILM outdid themselves. And although the film itself was the most retarded motion picture of the recent years, the visuals were stunning.
Best FIRST CLASS scene was the sub lift during the finale! Awesome!
First Class should make the top 10. Hopefully they can squeeze into the final 5, although I think Apes has much better chances. What do you think?

i think first class for the tail of Azasel and for the CGI of Mystic of her changes of imitation of her personalities of special efects and reptile the twister of him that he made look so real as the power of Havok too so its Frist Class vs Apes,infact i,ll go for First class for the CGI for Havocks powers and Mystic imitation and Emma cristal protecction powers look so real
i hope they nominated for the CGI of Mystici Emma Angel Havok and Asazel when he teleport so much incredible and very exciting job congrats for that and let me tell you something i like this CGI of of Emma Cristal much better then the other emma when the other emma is in the film of Wolverine 1 so i like so much better this Emma coz her cristal proteccion look so much real then the wolverine origin i can tell that so much amazing this CGI cristal proteccion of Emma then wolverine Origin no debut look so real
the only character that it looks so unreal is beast they should make him more realistic hes chest and he,s color like this film “the american wherewolf” coz the mutant beast he should be look like like this wherewolf not like this episodes of power Rangers colors no debut i m sorry but its true
i think its going to win First class for the CGI cristal of Emma Frost cos this CGI is so way to much better then the other Emma of Wolverine origins i m sorry but its look so real this special effects of emma then the other and the super powers of Havok Mystic and Azasel no debut OH and Darwin he,s CGI too when he transformed in to metal very cool

– Real Steel (should win IMO, great visuals here, never distracting from the story)
Problem with FC. Some shots really looked like they could need another rendering path. Think of the first shot of the “Aral Sea”, some of the navy shots.
On the other hand we had stunning visuals like the sub lift and cerebro.
IMHO FC should be nominated in Make Up and Art Design. There, they really outdid themselves.
will c my men Xavier on the make up but on the apes tranformers and potter i,ll keep my mouth closed its very difficult to choose but if you Xavier insist it could be transformer apes or potter i m with you on that one too coz that tree movies are the best of vissual effects so is very difficult to choose so i m with Xavier
The effects on Emma were a standout for me, even if I didn’t like the actress in the role. Shaw’s effects were interesting too. I’m sure there were lots of minor CGI details that aren’t noticeable at first glance.
