Hugh Jackman is keeping everyone guessing about whether he will reprise his legendary role as Wolverine in Marvel Studios’ upcoming Avengers event films. In a new interview with Variety, the actor was asked about the possibility of returning as the fan-favorite mutant in either Avengers: Doomsday or its follow-up, Avengers: Secret Wars.
When asked about Secret Wars, the interviewer pointed out, “You’ve said you’re not going to be in ‘Doomsday’ — but are you going to be in ‘Secret Wars’?” Jackman responded with a playful denial of any knowledge, saying, “I don’t know what you’re talking about. I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
The interviewer acknowledged Jackman’s response, joking, “I had to ask, but that was a very civilized answer.” Jackman then offered another humorous explanation for his reluctance to discuss Marvel’s plans, revealing, “I do have an internal chip, that is not metaphorical. There’s a literal chip, and if I say the wrong thing, I get shut down. I don’t know who controls that chip, but someone is controlling it.”
While Jackman’s comments were clearly delivered with humor, the actor’s response leaves the door open to speculation about Wolverine’s return for the next chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
