Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated X-Men reboot may have found its Bobby Drake. According to an exclusive report from Deadline, rising star Ben Wang (Karate Kid: Legends, The Long Walk) is in talks to portray Iceman in the studio’s upcoming live-action adaptation of the iconic Marvel superhero team.

Wang, who is 29, is preparing to appear in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping as District 12 tribute Wyatt Callow. He’s reportedly among the actors being considered for the role. Although Marvel has yet to officially confirm the casting news, Deadline also reports that Gabriel LaBelle, Jackson Kelly and Rhenzy Feliz were among the performers who tested for the part.

Iceman’s mutant abilities allows him to manipulate ice, generate freezing temperatures and transform his surroundings through his control of cold. The character previously appeared in Fox’s X-Men film franchise, where he was portrayed by Shawn Ashmore.

If Wang ultimately secures the role, he could become the latest actor to bring the fan-favorite mutant to the big screen.

The upcoming film is already assembling a notable ensemble with a cast that includes Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Adam Driver as Mr. Sinister, Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm, Asa Germann as Angel.

Jake Schreier will direct the reboot, working from a screenplay written by Lee Sung Jin, his collaborator on Beef, alongside Joanna Calo. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige will produce the project.

The new X-Men movie is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 5, 2028.
