Empire Magazine had a chat with X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST director Bryan Singer, who opened up about the film, based off themes presented in the critically-acclaimed 1981 comic book arc.
“It has a lot of aspects of the comic.” says Singer. “The actual comic of ‘Days Of Future Past’ had a whole ton of stuff going on, so it’s like any of these things; you have to distill it. But I think the fans will be pleased that some of the most exciting parts of Days Of Future Past are going to be connected to this movie.”
A major element of the comic story involves time travel and alternate universes. Singer explained how he’s using a more ambitious idea for an X-Men film.
“It’s epic. We get to bring both casts together. We’ve cracked it in a way that it makes sense. I had a two-hour conversation with James Cameron about time travel, string theory, multiverses and all that. You have to create your rules and stick wtih them. That’s why Terminator and Back To The Future work so well. And there are certain mechanisms in X-Men, certain powers, perceptions and characters, that make this possible.”
Ellen Page’s casting as Kitty Pryde showed that Singer was definitely keeping some continuity with X-MEN 3. He confirmed this, saying the entire universe is important, and that he’s keeping all X-Men films in mind.
“I’m taking into account every movie – I’m not just grabbing my first two movies and First Class and smashing them together. I’m taking into account the entire universe as it’s been laid out so far on the screen, and really respecting it and trying to work with that. People took things in various directions, so there’s some clean-up,” he confessed. “But ultimately I’m not just ignoring them either.”
That’s great news, since I like THE LAST STAND and absolutely adore ORIGINS (IMHO still the best film of the series… I know, hate and bash me).
Now THE WOLVERINE and DAYS will create one coherent timeline which will continue past DAYS into the future, adding the Fantastic Four into the mix… wheeew… This is going to be awesome!
People shouldn’t bash you for what you like.. that’s just wrong. I too liked X3 and even Origins (although they did mess up Deadpool). As much as I do like X3, I will agree that there’s so much more they could have done with that movie.. but alas, it is what it is.. hopefully Bryan will patch things up.
Well at least Bryan Singer knows how to respect X3/Origins even if they weren’t so good and he wasn’t involved with those films. I think its a good attitude, you don’t ignore a whole movie just because it sucked. What you should do is move on, there’s a bunch of storylines in the comics to adapt.
i think for what i read for this info of Bryan Singer this is going to b hugh and very interesting for talking to this director James Cameron and Back to the futre so awesome so is going tto be heavy this awesome movie of X-men movies so i say holly SH..!!!!!

I am seriously getting beyond hyped for this movie. At least we have The Wolverine to hold us over this summer, but it will not compare to this.
It will be different… that’s for sure.
I am excited and cannot wait to see THE WOLVERINE. As much excited as I am for DAYS.
i m not to much fan of wolvies so sorry but i m a fan of the team X-men and my fave Characters is Jubilee the electrical one Colossus Havok and Cyclopes those charaters are becoz they are enough powers to control they super powerful gift for over theyre mind that’s why those characters are my fave coz theyre have the super powerful force and theyre mind automaticly so that’s why theyre are my super awesome favorite for me and i forgot Nightcrawler the mutant teleportation that is super awesome!!!;))
Seriously Bryan.. I respect you with that.. All three films were good but your movie was the best.. I’ am really thankful that you let Ellen Page join the movie..
I know that you will never disappoint us with this. Putting the best cast together in one film is really a serious business that’s why I’m counting on you that you will do your best to make this movie the best X-men movie of all..
