Its currently fresh in Rotten Tomatoes!
ITS CERTIFIED FRESH GUYS! FRESH! FREAKING FRESH! 83% NOT BAD!
Seems mixed. Par for the course with Mangold to be honest…
Great 4 star review here- https://celluloidheroes.co.uk/review-the-wolverine/
I’ll be interested to see the flick, but my feeling is that critics were so unimpressed (some downright offended seemingly) by X-Men Origins: Wolverine, that The Wolverine had to be… Skyfall to get anything like universal approval.
My suspicion is – as it always has been – that Mangold has made a crackin’ good western (despite the film’s geographic location) with some superhero/action DNA cross-bred into the mix. If he’s stayed as true to the comicbook story as I think he has, then it risks feeling a little well-worn or even cliched. That comic is something approaching thirty years old let’s not forget, and a lot of what was fresh at the time isn’t so fresh anymore.
That being said, I still expect a good time at the movies, with perhaps a few niggly grievances that I’ll be able to get over…
