Despite early rumors, it appears that James Marsden won’t return as Cyclops in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. The actor recently confirmed the info to Vulture, saying “No, no X-Men, unfortunately. But who knows? If [DOFP] really works, Bryan [Singer] has said he wants to fix a few things, so hopefully that’s one of them.”
With the inclusion of “Jean Grey” in THE WOLVERINE, Marsden says he hopes her involvement lays the groundwork for the characters making a comeback. “We’ll see. I always liked Cyclops, but they have a lot of characters that they have to parcel out, spend time with each one, make sure everyone feels like they’ve been given their due, introduce them appropriately, but you could do a spin-off of every one of those characters and give them so much depth to the story line.”
In related news, Lucas Till, who plays Cyclops’ “unannounced” brother Havok, spoke with Coming Soon about his small role in the film, making sure to dodge any details.
“Basically, a war is taking place in one of the timelines,” said Till. “In the “First Class” cast’s timeline there’s a war during around the time of President Nixon you may be familiar with. That I may or may not be involved in. [Laughs.] That’s kind of my involvement there. It was fun to just show up and use my blasts and get to go back to my other movie. It was a nice vacation.”
The actor revealed that he doesn’t know all the major plot points in the film, because he hasn’t “even read the script,” due to production being so secretive. “I’ve been trying to piecemeal the story by talking to other cast members,” he said. “But they’re like, “Sh*t, I don’t know.” So you can’t even get the whole story yet. But I love that. Because I want to see it fresh, you know? So I like that I can’t figure it out.”
Hm…pretty disappointing, but hey, maybe they’ll surprise us, anyway…
I’m still keeping my fingers crossed for a surprise appearance anyways, lol. It would be a nice send-off if they had an after-credits scene of Cyclops and Jean raising Cable in an alternate timeline, and then introduce younger Cyclops and Jean in the next “First Class” team lineup.
I don’t want expect that he’s going to appear in the movie but I still wanted a surprise cameo scene with Jean Grey.. Really disappointed now coz I really grab the fact that he is part of the future team but still hoping for the best 😀
They simply cannon go through Days of Future Past without introducing some version of Jean Grey or, at the very least Cyclops. If these two are going to be two of Xavier’s “first students,” as stated in X-Men, then they must appear at some point in DOFP, in their young form. Otherwise, they’d waste another 30 minutes on a future film explaining who they are, where they come from, and how they got to Xavier’s school. By introducing them in DOFP, they can jump right in to another film with Jean and Scott leading the young X-Men team.
As for the original Jean and Scott, I have an inkling that if DOFP succeeds, Fox will greenlight X-Men 4 and X-Men 5 immediately; thus, giving writers the opportunity to bring back both characters. However, in order for the story to flow, these two characters’ return must be established beforehand–even if it’s in the quickest way, so that they don’t have to, again, spend too much time explaining why they’re in X4.
It seems to me, and it might just be the hopeful X-Men fan inside, that this famous mutant couple will make an appearance in DOFP–either in their young form or adult form, but they will….thoughts?
Good maybe they will recast the part and give it to someone who can act.
Remember when Hugh confirmed he wont appear in XFC ?
I seriously doubt Marsden was just visiting the set with another actor who has been confirmed to be in it. Keep in mind directors and actors lie. Abrams and Cumberbatch fervently denied that Cumberbatch was playing Kahn, yet he was. My bet is Marsden is in the film, Cyclops WAS NEVER DEAD. They never found a body, and I seriously doubt that even Phoenix could kill Scott.
