X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST director Bryan Singer participated in a 60-minute Q&A during Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal yesterday. He revealed interesting details, providing insight into the making of the film, and offered fans a 2-minute peek at footage from the film (same clip featured at Comic Con).
Thanks to JoBlo and 24 Panels per Second we have details on what was discussed.
Singer revealed that Quicksilver (played by Evan Peters) will NOT be joined by his sister Scarlet Witch, and that the character’s role is fairly minor, seemingly to be used as more of a plot device. His role should not majorly conflict with that of the same character in Marvel’s upcoming “Avengers” sequel.
He confirmed that actor Josh Helman will indeed play young William Stryker, which makes this the 3rd actor portraying the character on film.
He calls DOFP “not the brightest ‘X-Men’ movie,” but says that it “has a good message, trying to right wrongs.” As expected, most of the film will take place in the “past” timeline, with future segments taking place 10 years after X3.
It looks like James Marsden’s Cyclops is still dead, as Singer said he “wishes he could bring him back” and that he “wasn’t thrilled” with the decision to kill him off in X3. He justified the return of Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier by saying that [BEGIN SPOILERS] he has the ability to transfer his consciousness, possibly constructing a body around that consciousness [END SPOILERS].
Last but not least, filming has just a few weeks to go, with Singer filming a crucial scene between Xavier and Magneto, which explores their complicated relationship.

Oqaiii enough of the wolverine!!! I have to spit it out..
I’ve just read the inteerview bryan singer had an interview in “The Fantasia International Film Festival” in Motreal and he said about DAYS OF FUTURE PAST that “Most of the movie takes place in 1973. Future segments are 10 years after X3″ and I am a very angry mutant right now.. this means that the original cast are only the back up for the younger ones?! what do you guys think?! IM SAD!
The original cast only filmed for a few weeks to a month. I’m sure their scenes will be very good and memorable. Hopefully DOFP isn’t the last we’ll see of them! 🙁
Anyone familiar with the Days of Future Past comic story (as I imagine everyone here is), had to expect that the ‘future’ sequences in the movie would exist mainly as counterpoint to the ‘past’ sequences.
It’s like Godfather II in reverse. The Vito Corleone segments only account for roughly a third of that movie, and yet for some they manage to be even more memorable than Micheal Corleone’s segments which account for the majority of the movie. This seems to be because there’s something more provocative about the origin story that Vito’s segments relate, versus the machiavellian court intrigue and betrayals of his son’s story.
I imagine the same might end up being true of Days of Future Past. Where the ‘future’-set sequences might end up being the more provocative of the two. Simply because they offer a glimpse of how it could all go wrong. The human fascination with how things break, and what comes next.
Then of course, the 70’s portions do have some of that origin appeal, so it could be just as intriguing. I guess we’ll see…
What I’m saying is; Days of Future Past is going to be better than The Godfather Part II. Yeah, lets go with absurdly high – some might say ridiculously unrealistic – expectations. Why not!? That’s always a good idea… 😆
Thanks for the credit, but our website (and podcast) is 24 Panels Per Second, not 24 Frams Per Second.
Whoops – so sorry! Fixed 🙂
I hope I can see Rogue fighting at least 3 mins length of time..
Quicksilver will not be Magneto’s son in the movie and no Scarlet Witch?? Thanks a lot Singer..
That’s the Quicksilver in Avengers, but here.. They can use him as Magneto’s son. Scarlet Witch is absent in this one which disappoint me at all..
