The new trailer for X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST premieres Tuesday at 6AM PT (8AM CT, 9AM ET) on the official YouTube channel. During a 30 minute live chat on Twitter, director Bryan Singer said that the trailer is “primarily a character piece, as most of our VFX are not yet finished.”

Bringing together the cast from his original “X-Men” films and produced “First Class” series was “awesome, and slightly intimidating,” noting, “It’s all in the cast. They are great actors who know their characters – who know how to bring them to life.”

Singer said that he’s “a bit ahead of schedule” on editing the film with John Ottman, currently “tinkering with a piece in the opening that helps set up the story,” and explains that despite the film having “a great deal of humor,” the overall tone will be “a bit darker than previous films, particularly because of the stakes.”

Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique is back, and Singer describes her as being “much more hardened, kick-ass.” He lists off previously known new characters in the film including Blink, Bishop, Sunspot, Warpath and Quicksilver, but lets slip that a character named Ink will also appear.

In the comics, Ink (Eric Gitter) has no actual powers of his own. Instead, he had access to a mutant tattoo artist, Leon Nunez, who has the power to grant superpowers to others by tattooing iconic “power symbols” on them, evocative of the power he wants to bestow. Tattoos such as “lightning bolts” on his head give him mind reading abilities. Tribal lines and artwork up his arm give him super-strength.
