Big spoilers follow, and I mean it…
BIG SPOILER
SPOILER as huge as a Sentinel Mark 1
Okay… last chance.

The X-Men are back. Literally. The film ends with Wolverine waking up in the not too distant future where he reunites with Professor X, Storm and… Cyclops and of course Jean Grey.
So… X1, X2, X3, THE WOLVERINE and parts of ORIGINS WOLVERINE (in essence anything that happened after Logan leaving team X) did not happen in the new timeline. FIRST CLASS and the intro of ORIGINS are now the only historical events that did happen. Although one can assume that X1 and parts of X2 did play out in a similar fashion in this new continuity (Bobby and Rogue are a couple for example, Rogue has her grey hair etc.).
Logan is the only character who remembers everything from the now “old” timeline.
A nice way to reboot the whole saga, without rebooting it at all. When old Xavier asks Logan what the last thing he remembers we fade back into the past… I guess the sequel will deal with the past, and establish the new continuity, we will probably meet Jean, Scott, Storm as young characters, as Logan hints to young Xavier to remember those names and form the X-Men.
Stay until the verrrrryyyyyyyyyy end of the long credits… Apocalypse has his first appearance in the film, building an Aegyptian Pyramid in record breaking time, and being prayed to by the people. This sets up a villian (Thanos style) and promises a very interesting sequel.
Question is where the WOLVERINE stand alone film will go from here… The sad thing is, we probably won’t see Yukio again, since THE WOLVERINE never happened in this timeline, but it is still part of Logans memory.
I loved the editing of the film, and how fluent it was. I loved the costumes and the set design.
The film is tonally dark but humor is not rare.
Quicksilver got probably the best resonance from the audience. I cannot believe anyone thought this one would suck. THE AVENGERS will have a hard time to outsell this.
The only real disappointment was the score, which in essence is a rehash of X2’s score, which again imho was the weakest of the series. I wish Pryce-Jackman was back. DOFP has a boring score which never really stands out. The stock music is awesome however and the songs really bring back the 70ies to the big screen again.

END OF SPOILERS
Looking forward to 2016!
The score didn’t stick out to me as much as because, as you said, it was more of a rehash. Ottoman is still great though AND I enjoyed the various themes. The stock music from the 70s was PERFECT.
Terribly confusing and disappointing. Bryan Singer grants new powers to Shadowcat and overloads the movie with characters that aren’t being invested in. Some of the special affects are less than desirable. The franchise has gone down the tubes. I’m hoping for a reboot that is closer to comic with an emphasis in quality.
Is there any explanation as to why Kitty can phase minds back in time?
no there isn’t, but i can have an explanation that makes about as much sense as anything else… I’ll try to put it shortly but can elaborate if necessary: Even when she is inexperienced, Kitty Pryde’s powers allow her to phase through the 2nd and 3rd dimensions, right? So if she is able to practice and become more skilled, the next logical step in her powers is to phase through the 4th dimension… i.e. time. I kind of wish they had explained it but i can see why they didn’t- it would be hard to do gracefully.
I believe like danxman’s explaination we “could” say Kitty’s been phasing in and out of time in the first place. She phases her body through time bit by bit before objects are ever built and put in her path. I mean, my way isn’t definite ofcourse but its another way to think about it.
I need a DIRECTOR’S CUT with ROGUE Scene in it … Too much past … nevertheless, I FUCKING LOVE IT! and the homage to X2 … JEAN GREY !!!!!!! aghhh I was crying like a baby … and Apocalypse is MAJOR … MYSTIQUE!!!! finally, a film were Mystique is the queen of the movie.
I like how this film focused on Charles, Mystique and Erik.
Loved it! Best X film and really feel like this film breathed new life into the franchise. Action scenes were awesome. Were they the best I had ever seen, no .. But still very impressive. My only complaint was not enough future scenes. I wish they would have been able to incorporate more Storm. Her moments were way to fleeting. I know Halle was pregos but still missed her. Also would have like to see her inflict more damage on the sentinels. How long have I been waiting for a Storm vs Sentinel moment? Long time. Little bit of a let down but still really good. This move was packed full of heart. You really feel every emotion in this movie lol. I give it a strong 94 % rating.
I wish Storm would really fly. She could of had some crazy scenes with the Sentinels.
Here’s some part of my reviews and comment. EXPECT SPOILERS!
I watched it three times and It was a perfect film with 95% of rating. A truly masterpiece with lots of actions and amazing effects. There are just some flaws that I couldn’t ignore as a fan.
First of all was the removing of Anna Paquin’s character Rogue. She is the main reason I really wanted to see the film. But when they cut her major scene and put her as a cameo, it really breaks my heart. She appeared in the film for 3 seconds. She smiled and walks away with Iceman. THAT’S ALL. While on the other hand, Jean Grey and Scott appears to and has a minimum of 2 minutes with dialogue in the film. In my part, it was unfair. Two of them died in the previous movie. Rogue survived and has only one scene but yet they ditch her. Now im waiting for her deleted scenes.
and who is that guy who looks like Rogue in the beginning? i thought it was Rogue and eventually Magnus, but its impossible because I saw him again in the future scene.
Second was the explanation on how Professor X survives/reborn after his death on X-men: The Last Stand. I didn’t notice if they explained it but I’m pretty sure there is no exact explanation about it.
Third was the explanation on how Kitty gains time travelling power? I’m going to buy it if it’s Rogue become the main facilitator of the time travel. But Kitty? Phasing is not related to Time travelling.
The last was, Emma and Banshee did really die in the film? It means no White Queen in the future? and how about Syrin being in X2 if her father died in the original past, although even they didnt change the past, Banshee still died.
Furthermore, I enjoy the film. 2 hours is not enough for me. Blink’s portals are awesome!; Sunspot’s power works well with the effects, just too bright like the sun and not darker like in comics; and Warpath, trust me, no one noticed he could fly but more like fighter and a watcher, but still amazing, and then there’s Ink, Im looking forward to see him again in X-men: Apocalypse. Then Quicksilver, his scene got me all crazy. I have lots of question that needs to be explained through deleted scenes and interviews but moreover, I can assure you that you will enjoy the movie from start to finish.
I can’t believe they did that to Emma Frost. I bet they will regret that down the line.
Would have been nice to get explanations for Xavier and Kitty even though I can work it out in my head.
And I forgot how i’ am not impressed to Mystique’s make up. It looks like freaking suit and the scales isn’t look real, and the color is too bright, unlike the original ones. X1 to X3 Mystique appearance was more impressive, but her fighting scenes were superb.
Hope they try a different makeup technique for next film. She looked good in some scenes but it wasn’t consistent.
Ya who the heck was the mutant at the very beginning, scouring through the debris, finding and wiping away the dirt from the buried X belt? It looked to be a young child, with white bang streaks in their hair. Anyone have any clue?
I think it was Nate grey. But I really don’t know.
Mutant at first scene was cable-streak hair and golden eye
Xavier transferred his mind into another body
Kitty enters her second mutation-example being Emma and her diamond skin. The producers felt that explaining it wasn’t needed so tey put it in.
Also rogues scene was cut to accommodate the timing as they felt that with the three hour film, people would get bored. Truth is, they wouldn’t but critics would say it dragged on.
Uh I pretty much agree with everything everyone said but I’m left with this:
If X1 did happen (rogues streak) and the events of X2 didn’t happen as Mytique is Stryker and X3 didn’t happen as mutants love peacefully with humans so no cure, and Magneto is locked away coz Mysique hates him : How is Jean NOT the Pheonix?
X1 happened either way right? Coz he got put in prison AFTER X1, Jean still got affected by his machine.
Did Xavier notice her change and help her? Or what?
We don’t know if any events from x1 happened like they did in the movie. All we no is some how Rogue has a white streak in her hair. The point is they hit the start over button with dofp. They can go anywhere from here.
The whole story line is new at some point. Rogue still got her white streak which we have no idea how. But one reason is for marketing that the audience should know that she was Rogue.
Nate Grey.. now everything seems clear to me. I believe it’s him.
Based on interviews, my speculations about
Professor X return after his death, was he transferred his mind to another body and use a mutant, im referring to Masque to reconstitute his face to become the same appearance.
Kitty’s secondary mutation which she can phase the mind to another time. I personally don’t buy it but, it happened. I just hope they will not use it again in the future film.
Viewing order after DOFP:
– X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE
– X-MEN
– X2
– X-MEN: THE LAST STAND
– THE WOLVERINE
– X-MEN: FIRST CLASS
– X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST
Anyone disagrees?
I’d ditch X-Men Origins: Wolverine, just disavow it entirely. That’s apocrypha, as far as I’m concerned.
I’d agree with the rest though. 🙂
“We’ve been given a second chance to define who we are.” – Charles Xavier
It’s interesting to note how much symmetry is in play with the latest entry in the X-Men series. On screen there’s the story of a past/future collision, while behind the scenes something similar is taking place. Of course a large number of actors from the original three films have made returns, but most significant is the return of director Bryan Singer following an eleven year absence from the series that he launched back in 2000.
More than that though, is how much the future X-Men’s desperate attempt to route their past mistakes is echoed by a film intent on rectifying the past missteps of the franchise to which it belongs. Essentially this is the most comicbook plot ever employed by a comicbook superhero movie, one which seeks quite literally to reboot the universe right before our eyes.
The cast are uniformly excellent, but the stand-outs for me were James McAvoy, who is the movie’s heart and soul, and Jennifer Lawrence who brings to bear all the subtlety and authenticity she’s become known for to a wounded Mystique, driven by a grim resolve that echoes Magneto’s from the previous flick. On that note, can Michael Fassbender chew the scenery or what!?
The real star though, is Bryan Singer. If the director’s last movie felt timid, this one is brimming over with confidence. He seems to be relishing his return to the x-verse, and has rediscovered his knack for invention and humour in spades. Testament to that is the bravura Quicksilver sequence early in the film. There’s a lot of plot to be doled out here, and Simon Kinberg’s script does have a couple of blocks of exposition to get through early on, but Singer handles it all with deftness and verve, keeping the pacing brisk, and the focus on his characters (and the ridiculously strong ensemble that’s bringing them to life), making their emotional battles as relevant and captivating as the set-piece mechanics at work, all leading to that final tension filled, and surprisingly intimate climax, to create a film that rivals X2 (the director’s last excursion into the X-Men’s world) for the title of series best. Heck, this thing might rival The Avengers for shear movie-going good times. From the death-dealing opening, that revels in displays of mutant power to the epic crescendo, cross-cutting between past and future, Singer is back on towering form, and the X-Men are all the better for it.
Another reason to applaud the film is for the things it doesn’t do. It doesn’t waste our time with explanations of Professor X’s resurrection, or how Wolverine’s claws are adamantium coated again. It’s not even really concerned with filling comicbook aficionados in on the nature of Kitty Pryde’s power evolution. It has no time for any of that and besides, by the final moments of this tale, none of it’s going to matter anyway. And that’s the most audacious aspect of the movie.
At a time when the franchise reboot has become commonplace, there’s something giddily adroit about a film that actually makes that the ultimate objective of its character’s. That it succeeds at crafting a coherent and entertaining piece of pop-art cinema at the same time, one that offers both emotional engagement and big-screen vitality, can only be worthy of praise. Singer & Co. have redressed past failings here, adeptly securing the franchise’s future without getting overly bogged down in addressing each and every continuity glitch.
Overwhelmingly though, this film feels like the X-Men 3 we never got. Not in the story that’s told, but in how it’s told, in its tone and spirit. There’s something indescribably gratifying in that. The X-Men have absolutely been given a second chance to define who they are, and their world has never felt more alive with promise.
And I love that they’ve got there theme tune back. (Yay! John Ottman!)
Roll on the Apocalypse…
XDOFP is complete reboot of everything. The X-Men Trilogy didn’t exist, thank God, because X3 was a BIG DISASTER! So they are starting from scratch again. We will see the coming together of X-Men original members in 2016.Wolverine will have his own spin off as she was rescued by Mystique in the end of XDOFP past setting. Maybe they will also fix Silver Samurai as a mutant since it was a robot on the movie. It will be really exciting to see the new X-Men film in 2016. I like XDOFP a LOT but I prefer the old sexy femme fatale Mystique. JLaw is a great actress but Romijn portrayed Mystique perfectly. Would love to see Cyclops, Emma Frost, Gambit, and NIghtcrawler in Apocalypse. I will see XDOFP again in the near future. It is worth every penny of it. THANK GOD, Bryan SInger is BACK. Hope he will direct the 2016 film in spite of his personal legal problems. Good luck Fox, keep hoping my fellow X-Men fanatics!
