“I don’t want to give too much away because we don’t know that much right now other than who Gambit is,” said actor Channing Tatum, when asked by
MTV about his in-development GAMBIT spin-off. “We really do want to try our hardest to give something fresh. We’re obviously going to go to the saving the world superhero movies eventually, but not for the first one.”
The Cajun character has a pretty interesting backstory in the comics, though no word on which aspects (if any) they’ll cull from the original source.
Tatum is talking with producers and the creative team is seeking a writer for the project, which has no set release date as of yet. Fox plans to release a bevy of X-Men films in the future, which include both Deadpool and X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016, a Wolverine sequel in 2017 and a potential X-Force film.
