While reporting on casting for Marvel’s next movie, The Wrap offered this interesting blurb regarding Bryan Singer’s X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. It appears that Tom Hardy (Bane in The Dark Knight Rises) has been courted for the role of En Sabah Nur aka Apocalypse, the dangerous lead villain in Fox’s 2016 film which finds Xavier and a legit team of X-Men fighting to save the world from total devastation.
X-Men producers are interested in the casting choice, but is he their only choice? There could be other actors up for the coveted role as the casting process began just last week. Hardy is also being eyed for WB/DC’s “Suicide Squad” film.
Wait and see…
I think either Derek Mears (Jason Voorhees in Friday the 13th 2009) or Ken Kirzinger (Jason Voorhees in Freddy Versus Jason 2003) would also make a good Apocalypse in an X-Men Movie other than Tom Hardy.
What about Idris Elba for Apocalypse? The voice that he has in the Thor movies is perfect.
Tom Hardy might do a good job, as long as he takes it really seriously. (I didn’t like Batman 3. It’s not Tom Hardy’s fault but Batman 3 was not as good as the 1st two Batman movies (The 2nd one was excellent.) made by Chis Nolan. It was, in my opinion a sub par production. the story and script needed to be better. )
There are a few actors who could play Apocalypse.
Remember that with the make-up he’ll be wearing, the audience will not see his face. His face and body will be unrecognizable.
Keeping that in mind here are a few other suggestions: Idris Elba, Josh Brolin,
Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Cumberbatch and Joaquin Phoenix. It would also make sense to find an extremely talented unknown stage actor to play the part of Apocalypse.
My top 2 choices are (1) Idris Elba -his voice in the Thor movies is excellent;
and (2) find an extremely talented unknown stage actor -the studio can save a ton of money and introduce the world-wide movie audience to a new talent at the same time.
Vin Diesel would also make a good Apocalypse. Overall, Brendan Pedder should remain as the younger version of Apocalypse and big-sized Actor who is built should be the Elder Version of Apocalypse. People even said that Michael Clarke Duncan would’ve made a good Apocalypse before he passed away. Ken Kirzinger though already has experience with X-Men Movies under his belt though. Ken Kirzinger was a Stunt Devil for X-Men The last Stand.
Two young Patrick Stewarts squaring off. I’ll take that.
I’d prefer an actual Egyptian actor to take the role. I’m tired of seeing white men take all the important roles in a comic book move with exception to characters like Falcon and Nick Fury. Everyone is kinda just there. Even in Days of Future Past, all of the non-white X-men died twice…in amazing actions sequences…but still. :PP
I would personally prefer: Idris Elba for Apocalypse because his voice in the Thor movies is perfect, or Dennis Haysbert (again he has an excellent deep voice), or an unknown stage actor. Another name which keeps coming up for this role on these fans websites is Kevin Greivoux.
The more I think about it, the more I realize that it would be easy for the producers to hire an excellent, extremely experienced actor who actually has the Nubian, or ancient Egypt look.
The producers of the X-Men usually have good diversity in their casting, so I’d be willing to cut them some slack.
But, to hire Tom Hardy for the role, just because he played Bane in the Batman movie would be stupid.
There really aren’t any black supervillains on the big screen. This would be a first. And it could be an important recurring role, like Magneto.
