Deadline reports that Twentieth Century Fox is moving forward on a GAMBIT solo film! “Robocop” reboot scribe Josh Zetumer will pen the screenplay, which is based on a film treatment by legendary Marvel Comics writer and “Gambit” co-creator Chris Claremont. Channing Tatum will star in the title role of Remy LeBeau, a kinetic-energy manipulating mutant thief from New Orleans who finds himself in conflict with a rival guild of thieves. Tatum will co-produce with his Free Association partner Reid Carolin, along with longtime “X-Men” producers Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg.
It’s unknown if Gambit will have a role in Bryan Singer’s X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. The director expressed interest in including him in the 1983-set film, but later comments from Tatum and Shuler Donner suggest him going solo before crossing paths with the X-Men.
We’ll have to wait and see!
