According to The Hollywood Reporter, Channing Tatum has officially signed on to star in the Rupert Wyatt-directed GAMBIT. This comes after The Wrap reported that something was up with negotiations between the actor and 20th Century Fox. THR says “the studio did hit a sensitive spot in negotiations, but such back-and-forth is a normal part of top-level talent dealmaking.” Tatum’s involvement was never in any real danger since the actor, who’s also producing, was so closely involved with getting the film moving along.
Tatum’s involvement with “Gambit” and the overall “X-Men” franchise is expected to be a big one, as “Wolverine” actor Hugh Jackman hangs up the claws with his final film in 2017.
Production is expected to begin in Louisiana on October 13th and continue through February 12th of next year for theatrical release on October 7, 2016. It will have an estimated total budget of $154.9 million.
They needed to work things out with him regarding long term plans. Makes sense. Now it’s a done deal and we can get on with it (and learn from this to not get carried away with un-sourced internet rumours).
