Three Two actresses on shortlist for female lead role in GAMBIT.

With Channing Tatum officially signed to portray Remy LeBeau in Rupert Wyatt’s GAMBIT, the search is on for the film’s supporting female lead…Bella Donna Boudreaux.

Deadline and Entertainment Weekly report that three actresses are said to be on the shortlist for the role, which include Rebecca Ferguson (Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation), Lea Seydoux (Spectre, Blue is the Warmest Color) and Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road).

Bella Donna is an important role in Gambit’s story, a character who grew up with LeBeau in New Orlaens as member of a rival thieve guilds. The two were arranged to be married in order to ease tensions, but were separated after her brother challenged Gambit to a duel to the death. She’s a mutant herself and can astrally project herself and fire off blasts of plasma.

Filming begins in Louisiana on October 13th and continues through February 12th of next year for theatrical release on October 7, 2016. It will have an estimated total budget of $154.9 million.

Update: Deadline reports that Ferguson has taken herself out of the running.
