Deadline reports that Lea Seydoux (Spectre, Blue is the Warmest Color) has been given the offer to star as Bella Donna Boudreaux in Rupert Wyatt’s GAMBIT solo film. Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation) and Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road) were also in the running; Ferguson dropped out of the running in favor of another film.
Bella Donna is an important role in Gambit’s story, a character who grew up with young LeBeau in New Orleans as member of a rival thieve guilds. The two were arranged to be married in order to ease tensions, but were separated after her brother challenged Gambit to a duel to the death. She’s a mutant herself and can astrally project herself and fire off blasts of plasma.
Filming begins in Louisiana on October 13th and continues through February 12th of next year for theatrical release on October 7, 2016. It will have an estimated total budget of $154.9 million.
