The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced that 20 films are in the running for the 89th Academy Awards’ “Visual Effects” category.
DEADPOOL and X-MEN: APOCALYPSE are included on the list!
They will face stiff competition from other films, including: Alice through the Looking Glass, Arrival, The BFG, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Captain America: Civil War, Deepwater Horizon, Doctor Strange, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Independence Day: Resurgence, The Jungle Book, Kubo and the Two Strings, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Passengers, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Star Trek Beyond, Suicide Squad, Sully and Warcraft.
The Academy’s Visual Effects Branch Executive Committee determined the shortlist, which will be lowered to 10 films for the official nominations. They’ll be announced on Tuesday, January 24, 2017.
DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is the only film in the entire franchise (so far) to receive an official VFX nomination.
