Lilandra and the Shi’ar are coming? Jessica Chastain confirms X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX casting.

For the first time since her reported casting, Jessica Chastain confirmed via instagram that she’ll be soon joining the cast of Simon Kinberg’s X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX in Montreal. “Hey James McAvoy, you ready for me up in Montreal? I’m gonna make you cry so hard 😈,” she wrote.

Chastain is rumored to be playing Lilandra Neramani, the regal empress of the alien Shi’ar Empire. In the comics, Lilandra strives to defeat the cosmic Phoenix force, which is wrecking havoc across the galaxies. Though she is being presented as a villain in this film, her efforts are actually understandable in the full scope of things. In a way, the X-Men might actually be viewed as the enemies for trying to save Jean, even though her powers may cause future destruction to the universe.

Chastain joins McAvoy as Professor X, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, Summer Fontana as young Jean Grey, Evan Peters as Quicksilver and Lamar Johnson in a unspecified role.

“Dark Phoenix” comes to theaters on November 2, 2018.
