Stan Lee passed away on November 12, 2018 at the age of 95; more than a year before the death of his wife Joan. XMF wanted to take a moment to pay respects to the father of the Marvel Comics Universe as we know it; the man who created legendary superheroes including the X-MEN.
“It came along the minute I thought of the X-Men and Professor X,” Lee once told Rolling Stone during a 2014 interview. “I realized that I had that metaphor [for real life struggles], which was great. It was given to me as a gift. Cause it made the stories more than just a good guy fighting a bad guy.”
I’ve always connected with the X-Men for that very reason. There was something deeper going on, as it had a relatable message for many people. One fascinating aspect was always how the main villain, Magneto, isn’t inherently a villain the traditional sense.
Lee said he “had no idea that any of them would become what they are today. And so much of that is due to the brilliant movie-makers who’ve done the movies. Apparently, there was something about these characters that lent themselves to the type of movies that people like to see today.”
Stan, you are the man and you will be deeply missed. You lived a long life and your creations will span the test of time.
