The latest issue of Empire features an exclusive image from director Simon Kinberg’s upcoming DARK PHOENIX film. It features Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) side-by-side, ready to do some damage to a looming threat on the island of Genosha.

Speaking with the magazine, Kinberg explained why he decided to include the iconic landscape from the comics, which is a mutant “safe-haven” country on an island created by Magneto.
“Genosha is something that I’ve always been fascinated by,” he said. “It’s sort of Oz for mutants. As a Jew, its parallels to Israel and the notion of the promised land intrigued me even as a kid. I was looking in previous X-Men movies for a way to incorporate it. It was something I thought about for Apocalypse, but then went in a very different direction.”
