Veep actor Sam Richardson told Variety that he’d love a chance to play Dr. Henry McCoy aka BEAST in a future X-Men film: “I think Beast is like a big blue-haired Richard Splett,” he said of the character he appeared as for five seasons.
Richard John Splett, Ph.D., VMD, is the current president of the United States in that show’s world. Prior to this, he served as the United States Secretary of Agriculture from 2021 to 2025, the Governor of Iowa from 2020 to 2021, the mayor of Lurlene, Iowa, and the Chief of Staff to former President Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus).
Richardson probably saw the most similarities with his character and Beast from 2006’s X-MEN: THE LAST STAND, where McCoy served as the U.S. government’s Secretary of Mutant Affairs.
There’s no word on when casting will begin for Marvel Studios’ future mutant flick. At 37 years old, Richardson could be the perfect age for the character, unless head Kevin Feige decides to go younger or older. Its anyone’s guess at this point what a future Disney-backed X-MEN will look like.
