The legendary Stan Lee is gone, but his “name, voice, likeness and signature” will continue to live on. A massive 20-year licensing deal between Stan Lee Universe (Genius Brands International and POW! Entertainment) and Marvel Studios/Disney will allow the use of the iconic X-Men co-creator in all forms of media, including film, television/streaming, video games, theme parks, cruises, and merchandising.
“It really ensures that Stan, through digital technology and archival footage and other forms, will live in the most important venue, the Marvel movies, and Disney theme parks,” said Andy Heyward, the chairman & CEO of Genius Brands. “It’s a broad deal.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, insiders caution this new deal does not necessarily pave the way for the return of Lee cameos in movies, at least not in the way fans traditionally knew them.
Lee was a familiar face in 20th Century Fox’s classic Marvel universe, having cameos in X-MEN, Fantastic Four, Daredevil, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, DEADPOOL and DEADPOOL 2.
