Fans were treated to a first look at X-MEN ’97 during Marvel Animation’s panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego. X-Men: The Animated Series series showrunner Eric Lewald and writer Julia Lewald joined executive producer/ head writer Beau DeMayo, head of streaming Brad Winderbaum, head of visual development Ryan Meinerding, and Rogue voice actor Lenore Zann on stage to present new content and discuss the legendary show.

Things started off with a tribute video to the original show and a “work in progress” clip from the upcoming revival. In it, the X-Men can be seen facing off against Bolivar Trask and his Sentinels. Rogue knocks one of their heads off, and Wolverine cuts into one, saying “Fancy a trip to the junkyard, bub?”

Attendees were the first to see new character designs, including an altered team shot where Storm has a new mohawk hairstyle. Magneto is shown in a faithful adaption of his 80’s trial outfit, with a huge “M” emblazoned on front. It was revealed that Erik will lead the X-Men in Charles absence, something the comics have done multiple times before. We also get a look at supporting characters: Sunspot, Morph, Cable, Bishop, Forge, and Nightcrawler, including the villains: Mister Sinister, Sebastian Shaw, White Queen, Callisto, and Val Cooper.

It was also revealed that Marvel Studios has already greenlit a season two!
