Marvel Studios has released a new ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ featurette for the film’s antagonist, Namor. Portrayed by actor Tenoch Huerta, the character debuted in 1939, and is known as Marvel Comics’ first mutant. This was a retroactive change, as he wasn’t referred to as a mutant until 1964, a year after the arrival of the X-Men.
Namor’s powers in the comic books come from him being a unique hybrid of Atlantean and human mutate DNA. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Atlantis is replaced with the Kingdom of Talocan. Because of his unusual genetic heritage, Namor is unique among both ordinary humans and Atlanteans. The majority of his superhuman powers come from the fact that he has hybrid DNA, but the wings on his ankles and his ability to fly at full force can’t be explained by either side. (X-Men Wiki)
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever arrives in theaters November 11.
