Video: Hugh Jackman on ‘The Wolverine’ director James Mangold.

MTV recently caught up with THE WOLVERINE star and producer Hugh Jackman, who briefly spoke about choosing James Mangold (3:10 to Yuma) to direct after Darren Aronofsky left the project. “There were a number of directors who wanted to do this because we have the best script yet,” said Jackman. “[Mangold’s] take was the strongest. He’s phenomenal [and] he’s going to really knock this one out of the park.

And yes, the film is keeping its original title, says Jackman. “Darren wanted to call it ‘The Wolverine’ and I want to keep it because to me this is going to feel like THE Wolverine. This is the one that in 20 years time I want to say,’Check this out.'”

The film, with a script from Christopher McQuarrie, follows Logan as he treks Japan and falls in love with a woman whose hand has already been promised to another. The claws come out when Logan finds himself in an all-out battle after her father summons the Silver Sammurai and other powerful legends of the X-Men universe to take him out.

Production begins this October in the USA and Japan for a potential 2012 release. 20th Century Fox has yet to officially announce any specifics.
